Job Description:
Purpose and Scope
Welds and assembles metal components per plans and specifications for products supplied by Wheeler.
Responsibilities
- Attend work on the schedule established by the employer and without excessive absenteeism.
- Follow all safe work practices.
- Obtain parts and materials that are generally over 50 pounds by using forklifts, cranes, hand carts, carrying, etc.
- Access area to be welded by climbing ladder, by climbing under parts, working on the floor, etc.
- Use disc grinder to smooth out, weld, or grind parts prior to welding.
- Operate manual and automated welding units by following the Company’s approved Weld Procedures.
- Take and pass a weld test that is administered by a third party agency.
- Weld in flat, vertical and overhead planes (all position welding).
- Examine weld for bead size and other specifications.
- Grind or clean weld joint of work piece.
- Repair improperly welded pieces and fill holes.
- Able to read and understand working drawings (blue prints).
- Tack assemblies together.
- Perform any and all other duties such as decking, shop clean-up, etc as instructed by your supervisor.

Job Requirements:
Education and Training
Previous production welding experience is preferred, but not required.
Technical Requirements
The usual and customary methods of performing the job’s functions require the following physical demands: significant lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling; some climbing and balancing; frequent stooping, kneeling, crouching, and/or crawling; and significant fine finger dexterity. Generally the job requires 10% sitting, 20% walking, and 70% standing. The job is performed under some temperature variations.
