QNAP Wood Preserving
Heavy-duty timber structures require heavy-duty treatment. Wheeler uses copper naphthenate (QNAP) to ensure our timber materials stand the test of time.
QNAP Treatment Supplied by Nisus
Copper naphthenate is an approved, effective and oil-borne wood preservative. Oil-borne preservatives have a longer efficacy than water-borne, protecting wood structures from excessive weathering over time. At Wheeler, we use QNAP supplied by Nisus, a leader in timber pressure treatment. QNAP is EPA-registered and safe for general use. It’s also standardized for use by the AWPA.
Benefits of QNAP
Long-term performance
QNAP outperforms other preservatives available. Studies completed by the USDA Forest Service’s Forest Products Laboratory document long-term performance.
Safter to work with
QNAP is not a dermal toxin and has no phototoxicity associated with some oil-borne preservatives. It’s safer to handle than other alternatives.
Cleaner Handling
Although QNAP is an oil-borne treatment, steam cleaning after treatment greatly reduces surface oil residue. QNAP results in no dripping.
No corrosion concerns
Many studies show that QNAP results in no excessive corrosion of surrounding hardware due to contact with the preservative.
Color reveals wood grain
The semi-transparent color of QNAP reveals the natural wood grain of the timber species. Shades of light to dark brown are typical.
100% domestic
The primary ingredients used within the preservative are derived and/or manufactured within the US by US-owned companies.
Zero Hazardous Waste
QNAP treated wood waste isn’t considered hazardous waste according to the current EPA regulations under the Resources Conservation and Recovery Act (RCRA). QNAP treated wood can be disposed of safely according to federal, state and local regulations. It can also be recycled or used for energy recovery processes.
Broad Applications
QNAP can be used on a wide range of wood species, including the most commonly treated such as Douglas Fir and Southern Yellow Pine. QNAP is the perfect preservative for a wide range of applications, including railroad bridge ties & timbers, salt storage buildings and more.
